About Activities

Horden Youth & Community Centre aims to provide a variety of activities to suit all age groups. All of our activities run throughout the year, although some, such as the Luncheon Club, run only in term-time. Some are free while others require subscriptions or a sessional fee, so please go to the relevant page for details of times and cost (if any) for the group in which you are interested.

Many of our activities have come about through popular demand, or have grown out of tutor-led courses which came to an end. Only the dance, Zumba and Bokwa sessions are provided by a separate company, Garage Urban Styles.

We are always on the lookout for new things to offer to the local community and welcome suggestions for groups which could be based here in the Centre. Pursuits that don't require detailed tuition, such as crafts; or general interest groups, such as book clubs or writers' groups, would be especially valued. The ideal would be for a group to start up to pursue a common interest, sharing knowledge and experience, helping and advising each other and welcoming new people into the fold. So if you (or someone you know) have a hobby, skill or interest you are passionate about and would like to help others learn, please let us know. We will then advertise it around the Centre and immediate locality to see what level of interest there is, because there's nothing worse than being the only person in the room. If you, and we, feel that the group could be a success, all we have to do is agree dates and times then tell everyone we know!

An observation must be made here: HYCC can only run activities (and courses) if enough people express an interest in joining in, and then continue to attend. Many have started, and many have died a death simply through lack of support! Unfortunately, as we have no outside funding to help us in running either activities or courses, sometimes we have no choice but to stop an activity through lack of people.

Word-of-mouth is absolutely the best form of advertising, so whether you already attend one of our activity groups or would like to start your own, please tell others about it with as much enthusiasm as you can muster.

We welcome everyone to the Centre, so please come along and have a chat with us about any interests you have. Our door is (almost) always open!
