HYCC has four rooms for general hire by groups, businesses, organisations and individuals. We have developed a tradition of naming rooms for individuals who have provided outstanding contributions to the work of the Centre — but have not, until now, called any of the rooms by their "proper" names!
We decided that it was time this changed to give these people the recognition they deserve, so you will find our rooms named like this:
The Florence Wilson Multi-Purpose Room is best for indoor sports, very large groups and craft activities, parties and big events.
The Tina Phillips Training Room, with 12 desktop computers — seven Macs and five PCs — interactive whiteboard and adjustable seats and three workstations adapted for disabled users, is best for IT and employability training groups. It is also eminently (good word, that!) suited to groups that have PowerPoint and similar presentations, and is mainly used for teaching more academic subjects.
The Barbara Dunn Room is best for less formal classes and training, informal and confidential meetings. There is a large screen TV which can be used for PowerPoint or similar presentations, DVD viewing, and computer gaming as well as Freeview TV. There are also built in desk units and power outlets to set it up as a laptop computer suite, as we have 10 laptops for group use.
The Margaret Robinson Dining Room, with attached kitchen, is best for smaller groups who require separate tables, cooking groups, and anyone who might wish to serve refreshments. Good for meetings, classes and social clubs such as bingo or dominoes.
Patrons who are familiar with the Centre will see that we no longer have the Chill Out Room, the one with the comfy seats. This is because the Nursery has expanded its provision and has taken over the old room. Instead we have converted the former CHIMPS Room into a multi-purpose facility (The Barbara Dunn Room) for meetings, teaching and additional computer use, utilising laptops rather than desktop units. There are still a couple of comfy seats in there, though!
Please note that the Centre is not available for party or other room bookings on Bank Holiday weekends or at any time during the two week Christmas period. This is because we cannot guarantee staff availability.
Our Room Hire rates are as follows:
Note: we do not have our own bouncy castle, so it is up to the hirer to arrange entertainment for parties.
Refreshments (tea, coffee, fruit juice, biscuits etc.) can be provided for £1.00 a head, but you must tell us when booking if this is required. Alternatively, our kitchen is available for clients to make their own drinks, for which we ask 40p a mug.
Room hire rates include all equipment, for instance computers, printing, projector etc.
We can provide a portable induction loop system for the hard-of-hearing and we have full disabled access to all public areas. There is a disabled toilet on the premises.
Additional information for specific rooms, and a virtual tour of each room, can be found on the relevant page of the site.
You can make a provisional room booking online here or, alternatively, contact us to discuss your needs in more detail. For children's parties, you can use our online form or, if you prefer, download and complete this form and hand it in to the office.
The Centre complies with all relevant Health & Safety protocols and has Data Protection, Risk Assessment, Vulnerable Child and Vulnerable Adult policies in place. All Centre staff are DBS (formerly CRB) checked. We do not practice any form of discrimination or exclusion (except in the case of a gross breach of conduct on the part of an individual or group). Please read our Code of Conduct for further information.
There is a fully-qualified First Aider on site during normal working hours.
All equipment has been tested and certified safe by the relevant bodies.
Help keep the Centre running.
